Stargazing Mode

Turn your iPhone into a window to the cosmos. Hold it up and explore the real night sky — stars, constellations, and planets at their true positions. Ad Astra!

Stargazing Mode

Augmented-Reality Star Map

Stargazing Mode uses your device's gyroscope and accelerometer via CoreMotion to track exactly where your phone is pointing. The sky responds to your movement in real time — look up to see stars overhead, pan toward the horizon to see constellations rising and setting. It feels like holding a portal to the universe.

Real Astronomical Positions

Every star, planet, and constellation is plotted using real astronomical calculations based on your exact GPS coordinates, elevation, and the current date and time. Stars are positioned using right ascension and declination converted to local altitude-azimuth coordinates. What you see on screen is what's actually above you.

  • Built-in star catalog with magnitude-based rendering (brighter stars appear larger)
  • Solar system planets calculated from orbital elements
  • Constellation lines connecting named stars
  • Labels toggle for a clean or informative view

Horizon Feedback

When you pan your device across the horizon line, Breeze triggers a subtle shimmer animation and haptic feedback. It's a satisfying tactile moment that anchors the sky to the real world and helps you orient yourself between ground and sky.

Pinch to Zoom

Adjust your field of view from a wide 120-degree panorama down to a tight 30-degree zoom for identifying distant stars and planets. The zoom is continuous and fluid, with smooth interpolation that never feels jerky. Perfect for isolating a specific constellation or getting a closer look at a planet.

Manual Drag Fallback

Using the Simulator or prefer touch controls? Stargazing Mode includes a manual drag fallback that lets you pan the sky with your finger instead of device motion. It's also great for accessibility — everyone can explore the cosmos.
